Best results are as easy as 1-2-3!

1. Choose your software in the drop down Search Index box.
2. Type in one or two words in the Keywords box. If you type more than one word enclose the phrase with quatation marks!
3. Spell correctly. That should do it!

More detailed information

Entering your search:

  1. If you know what software version you are interested in, click the drop-down menu that says "All" and select your software and versions' index.

Example:

    About Helpdesk

    What is an Index?
Webster's dictionary describes "index" as a sequential arrangement of material. Our index is a large, growing, organized collection of Helpdesk documents. The index grows daily as we analyze searches and add documents. When you use our search service, you search the entire index using keywords.

    What is a word?
When searching, think of a word as a combination of letters and numbers such as catalyst. The search service needs to know how to separate words and numbers to find exactly what you want on the Helpdesk.

    What is a phrase?
You can link words and numbers together into phrases if you need specific words or numbers to appear together in your result pages. To find an exact phrase, use "double quotation marks" around the phrase when entering words in the Keywords: box.

Example #1: To find documents that pertain to Captioning, you could type "broadcast captioning suite" in the Keywords: search box always selecting the appropriate Index.

    Tips for More Exact Searches

Searches are case insensitive and accent insensitive. Searching for "Elan" will match the lowercase "elan", uppercase "ELAN", "élan" and " Élan." Of course, you would choose the Writing Machines Index for the search.

    Including or excluding words:
To make sure that a specific word is always included in your search topic, place the plus (+) symbol before the key word in the search box. To make sure that a specific word is always excluded from your search topic, place a minus (-) sign before the keyword in the search box.

Example: To find print in Case Catalyst but without edit, type print +catalyst -edit.

Expand your search using wildcards (*):
By typing an * at the end of a keyword, you can search for the word with multiple endings.

Example: Try translat*, to find translate, translated, translating, and translate/edit.

    Typical search features

You can search more than just text. Here are other ways you can search on the net:

    text:text
Finds pages that contain the specified text in any part of the page other than an image tag, link, or URL. The search text:catalyst would find all pages with the term catalyst in them.

    title:text
Finds pages that contain the specified word or phrase in the page title (which appears in the title bar of most browsers). The search title:Edit would find pages with Edit in the title.
